How to Understand the Causes of Snoring
September 22, 2009
Studies have shown that an estimated forty-five percent of mean and thirty percent of women snore regularly. Of those that do not store on a regular basis still have had bouts of snoring when taking certain medications, after drinking alcoholic beverages, and after a viral illness.
Any person with any boy type can snore; however, it has been that as individuals age and begin to gain weight snoring can worsen. You must remember that every person on this earth can snore either on a regular basis or during the times listed above.
Causes of Snoring
As we breathe, the air flows in and out of our nose or mouth, to our lungs, and from our lungs. When we sit, we breathe quietly. When we exercise, some sound is produced from our breathing due to the flow of air being sucked in and out quickly, which causes vibration of the tissues in the nose, and mouth, thus noise is produced.
As we sleep, the area at the back of the throat often narrows. However, the amount of air that is passed through the area is not lessened; therefore, the tissues can vibrate, thus causing the sounds known as snoring.
What causes snoring?
While we are breathing, air flows in and out in a steady stream from our nose or mouth to our lungs. There are relatively few sounds when we are sitting and breathing quietly. When we exercise, the air moves more quickly and produces some sounds as we breathe. This happens because air is moving in and out of the nose and mouth more quickly and this results in more turbulence to the airflow and some vibration of the tissues in the nose and mouth. The narrowing can be in the throat, nose, or in the mouth, each person is different and so is the reason they have narrowing, thus snoring.
Is Snoring Serious?
In some cases, snoring is a sign of a more serious health problem. In the majority of cases, snoring is only a serious problem for those in the home that have to try to sleep with a snorer in the house. Most snorers do not even know they are snoring and do not have any sleeping problems. The sad news is that the partner is the one that must sleep elsewhere in order to get a good nights rest.
Some health problems with snoring as a symptom include breathing problems, sleeping problems, and sleep apnea.
If a person is snoring, they should be checked by a physician since there could be underlying health problems or an isolated problem. Some snoring can be associated with upper airway resistance, obstructive sleep apnea, insomnia, and various sleep disorders.
The main reason a person should learn if there is an underlying problem causing their snoring is that other health risks can be involved. If a person has obstructive sleep apnea this disorder is associated with cardiovascular disease like strokes or heart attack.
