How to Understand Creating Websites to Make Money Scams and Protect Yourself24 Apr
When you use the internet you will see many places which are actually shopping sites from where you can buy products. But there are also many web creation sites which tell you how to make money online – are these all scams?
If you are an internet user you will sometime or the other hit on sites which tell you how you can make easy money online by making a website of your own. Some of them will offer to tell you their secrets either by downloading reading material or video casts. You’ve probably read stories and testimonials of people on the sites saying how much money they’ve made – thousands of dollars each month very easily. Surely you’ve been tempted to do the same either as an extra source of income or even an easy alternate job.
So-called free downloads
Most of the time, these are not free at all. You have to pay some money, anything from $ 40 and over to download a ‘free’ e-book or a ‘free’ video presentation. Or you may be able to order a CD which will offer you a step-by-step guide on how you can make easy money online.
Well, you’ve heard the old adage, ‘there’s no such thing as a free lunch’. You may go through pages and pages of sales spiel and finally get to the page where you find out you have to pay to get these secrets which will net you thousands of dollars every month for a few dollars. Think about it – if there are such secrets why should anybody just sell them and not use them? And if they are really using these ‘secrets’ why do they need to sell them and increase the competition? Once you have entered your credit card number, you don’t even know whether you will get the stuff and also how much money will actually show up on your card.
In fact, if you are really tempted then the best advice that you can follow is either create a virtual card for exactly that much amount or call up the credit card company and tell them that you are making an internet transaction for an x amount and if it is more than that, it should be declined – keep a record of the name of the person you speak to, the time of the call and what you said, in case there is a dispute later.
Website creation
Yes, if you have a great idea you can create a website, embed links in it, get ads for it and get paid either through click per ad or by sending the person who clicks to a buying site. This usually comes under affiliate marketing. You can do all these things, too and most website creators do.
If you want a really professional website and know nothing about website designing it is better to pay some money and get a professional to design it. You may need a webmaster to handle the site and its traffic. You will have to drive traffic to the site by way of ads which you have to pay for or articles and blogs in various sites with back links to your site. So it is not an easy job – it requires time and money investment.
The different scams
As mentioned earlier one scam is to sell you a book/CD/download, which may or may not be helpful, but certainly fills the sellers’ pockets. Then there are websites which say you’ll get paid to surf, email, take surveys, fill forms, multilevel marketing via websites; they’ll offer to help you build free websites and give you articles free or very cheap to put on your website.
Remember content is king on the internet and Google, yahoo and msn and other search engines have a way of disregarding duplicate content.
How you can protect yourself
Only sign up with very reputable sites – check on the internet for scam websites. If anybody asks for money upfront and credit card details, you have to take a call and be extremely cautious.
Understand the reality of what you are going to get into – it is not easy work. Even Google adsense pays after you have a certain amount of money, which may take a long time in coming. Make sure your credit card is not overcharged by following the advice give above. If you are a victim of an online scam, make sure your voice is heard – it will warn others not to fall for it.
