Two examples below
Kevin Stewart of Florida experienced liver failure. Every two weeks he had to go to hospital to get drained of accumulated fluids which his liver could not process. His doctor told him that without a liver transplant he would not survive. He had no health insurance and was told that it would cost him $350,000 and that also if he could get a liver in time.
He checked up on the internet and zeroed in on a transplant in India. Fortunately his sister agreed to donate a liver lobe for the transplant. He had the surgery done at Apollo Hospital in New Delhi, India. The cost was only $55,000. Back home, Kevin is fine and happy with the care he got.
Rene Luis Godinez of Philippines used to go to Hawaii for a summer vacation as also some business. His wife noticed that his eyes were looking yellow and initially though it was jaundice. At the Maui Memorial Hospital he learnt that he was suffering from liver failure due to cirrhosis.
The family went back to Philippines and was finally told that there was no hope. A relative told them about Dr. KC Tan of the Asian Center for Liver Disease and Transplantation at Gleneagles Hospital in Singapore and when they spoke to the doctor, they were told Rene could have transplant surgery. Fortunately Rene’s brother agreed to be a donor.
The surgery went off well, Rene was in hospital for a month and later returned home fit and healthy. Fortunately he was covered by his insurance company Interglobal Health Limited of New Zealand which helped with all the expenses that were incurred in Singapore from pre to post transplant procedure
