Tom Cruise

There are many famous people who have achieved success and fame despite being handicapped with dyslexia. ‘When I was about seven I was labeled dyslexic. I’d try to concentrate on what I was reading, but then I’d get to the end of page and have very little memory of anything I’d read. I would go blank, feel anxious, nervous, bored, frustrated, dumb,’ he said.

He was not an academic success and went through 15 schools in 12 years. but remedial classes helped him to pass high school in 1980. He did not let his learning disability keep him from becoming successful.

Whoopi Goldberg

Whoopi Goldberg suffered from dyslexia and was labeled as slow and retarded. “I couldn’t understand what they were doing,” says Whoopi, referring to her inability to grasp seemingly basic lessons. Of course she couldn’t. She had dyslexia, though it would be years before the reading disorder was diagnosed.

“You don’t want to be retarded all your life. I was retarded for a good part of mine, according to all the paperwork, and I just couldn’t handle it,” she admits. So she gave up -cleaned out her locker and hit the streets. She dropped out of school and went on to become an actress, comedian, radio host, TV personality, game show host, and author. She is one of only thirteen persons, who have won the Academy, Emmy, Grammy, and Tony Awards,
