Betty Ann had vision problems and found she could see less and less even with her glasses on. When she went in to get a new prescription she was diagnosed with cataracts. She had surgery and had multifocal lenses implanted.
‘I never expected to be able to see everything like I do. Without glasses. I don’t even have any… They’re just like new eyes, she says of her experience. The day after the second surgery, she removed the eye patch and drove herself to the doctor, thrilled that she could see so well.
Brenda Alworth, 71, from St Albans, had her first cataract operation four years ago and her second one earlier this year. Gradually her vision worsened and when she finally went to the optician she was told she had cataract in her right eye which ought to be removed while the left one could be left alone for some time.
Of her second surgery she says,’It was very quick. I was only in the theatre for 15 minutes and was able to go home shortly afterwards. My eye was covered with a plastic eye patch, which I was able to take off the day after the operation. I had the operation on the Friday and was back at work on the Monday.’
Noel Pregont,74, found it increasingly difficult to drive at night. He had blurred vision and could not see the golf ball. When he went to his doctor, he was diagnosed with cataracts in both eyes.
He had cataract surgery first in one eye and a few weeks later in the other. ‘I’m very happy I had the surgery,’ he says because he can see clearly now.
Richard loved reading and when he could not focus on the words he went to his eye doctor who told him he had cataracts. His doctor told him he could chose from different lenses. With one, he would need glasses to read.
He chose to get multifocal lenses implanted. ‘It was so easy. It was just a series of eye drops maybe three days before and on the day of the surgery. I was in and out in two hours.’ he said. He had first one eye done and when vision was perfect in that eye, he had the second one done. ‘The surgery itself took about 10 minutes, I think. I had to wear dark glasses home from the surgery.’ Now he does not need glasses for near or distant vision.
Betty McFarland of Harrison needed cataract surgery when her vision started blurring. She went to Kilgore Vision Center for her treatment. ‘Everything went just like a breeze, very smoothly from start to finish. It seemed like the cataract surgery took just a few minutes. I went back the next morning to have my bandage removed. Three weeks later, I did the other eye. Now, everything is fine,’ she says.
She has new glasses now and can see very clearly. Her surgery was covered by Medicare and her supplemental insurance.
Arlene Coon of Clinton Township, MI, found her vision blurring and she found it difficult to read at night and also read the scriptures. She was found to have cataracts and had to undergo cataract surgery.
She opted for crystalens implants which mimic the natural eye in youth. After her successful surgeries she says, ‘Grandma has a ‘bionic eye’!! I can drive..knit, read the scriptures, all without glasses!!’
