How to Become a Retail Cashier (Real Examples)

Anna Marie Bowman lives in Florida and writes on a variety of subjects. In her blog she writes about her experience of working as a cashier. She says that she has worked in different places as a cashier from a ‘big box’ store to a department store. She has written very honestly about the upsides and downsides of the work.

Among the benefits are employees’ discounts; which can help a great deal when you are on a budget. Then there are clearance items – as an employee you always know what a good deal is and where the items are. Downsides are not so great pay, having to deal with difficult customers and standing all the time. Also there is a certain lack of job security as retail shops often shut down.

‘This can be a great part time job for a parent, who is usually stuck at home, to get out, and interact with other adults.  Even if it’s just a few hours a week, just to get out of the house and have something to do,’ she says. Another plus point is that jobs are almost always available.
