Greg Jordan graduated from the Portland State University with a degree in environmental sciences. The fashion world is very competitive, especially for new fashion designers. If you don’t have serious financial support, you are less likely to become a name in the fashion industry; Kate Spade is the exception of this rule. Kate had no idea she will enter the world of fashion when she attended the Arizona State University. She got her degree in Journalism.

After graduation, she found a job at the Mademoiselle magazine in Manhattan at the accessories department. After few years, Kate was promoted to Senior Fashion Editor and Head of Accessories to the same magazine. She started to notice that the handbag market was in need of something new, simple and more elegant. In 1994, she decided to enter the accessories market by creating her brand of accessories – ‘Kate Spade Handbags’.

In 2004, after having a tremendous success, Kate launched a complex collection of accessories, including china, wallpapers, bedding and even bath products. In addition, she launched new collections of handbags, sunglasses, shoes, leather goods and many more.

Amber Rubarth

Amber Rubarth started playing music only five years ago. Born 26 years ago in Reno, Amber enjoys making a full living from music. Although she is not in the top MTV charts, amber is very happy that she has the opportunity to share her music freely. Music was always close to her heart, and Amber wanted to learn play the guitar. Three weeks later, she had her first live performance. Meeting other musicians, creating her own songs, and interacting with the crowd came naturally for amber, a born entertainer.

Amber thinks that learning music is like learning a new language; the more you practice the better you become. She was paid $20 for her first gig. With time, she gathered a small group of artists to accompany her during the concerts. Their show turned to be successful, especially after they started to invite other local artists. Amber also volunteered to work with a booking agent in order to learn the secrets of booking concerts.

Spencer Breslin

Spencer Breslin was living in New York when, at the age of three was discovered by a talent manager at a local playground. Although Mike and Kim (the parents) were at first skeptical about letting their three old getting involved in the TV industry, they agreed. Few months later, Spencer was hired for a couple of important ads: for Life cereal and McDonalds. Unlike other cases, where kids need to go to hundreds of auditions before getting the role, Spencer was quite lucky. After a couple of auditions, he was booked. Spencer’s career continued with a series of ads and staring next to Bruce Willis in ‘The Kid’. Spencer’s sister, Abigail was also very successful. She stared in few ads, in Toys “R” Us and ‘Raising Helen’ with Kate Hudson. The most recent role of Abigail is ‘Little Miss Sunshine’ (2007). The Breslin kids work hard to build a career, but they still maintain a balance between being actors and childhood.

Natasha Galkina

Russia has given the world some of the most beautiful top models. Each of them has an interesting story, at least from a westerner’s point of view. Natasha Galkina is a Russian model and a TV star. She was one the first runner-up on ‘America’s Next Top Model’ (the eighth edition), after Jaslene Gonzales.

Although she was not amongst the favorites in the beginning of the show, she impressed the judges by earning the title of Covergirl of the Week three times during the show. Natasha was born in 1985 in Rostov, Russia. She attended the Moscow University and met Stuart Hagler, 21 years older than her. Their love was genuine, and Natasha agreed to marry him and move to Richardson, Texas.

They have a beautiful daughter and in spite of mean people calling her a ‘Mail Order Bride’, Natasha keeps her family together and works hard to succeed in life. Some of her most recent contracts are with Muse NYC models, Modern Luxury Houston, and DC magazines.

Jon

Being a bodyguard is a dangerous yet rewarding job. People who choose to work as bodyguards need extensive training in defense techniques, knowledge in firearms and exceptional intuition and skills. Jon was training in the US Special Forces when he suffered a parachute injury. He was medically discharged and had to find another job. However, people with military training prefer to work in similar backgrounds, so Jon signed up at the Center of Advanced Security Studies in 2002.

Jon’s colleagues came from various countries, like the Republic of Georgia, Scotland, or the UK. The graduation drill was very realistic: they had to protect a very important woman who was visiting Miami. After graduation, Jon was sent to Iraq. His missions were dangerous and two of his Center colleagues were killed in action. Today, Jon shares his extensive experience to other students. He is a bodyguard instructor at the Center for Advanced Security Studies.

Goldman Sachs Initiative

There are many negative things happening around the world, like corruption, wars, and political interests. As a result, almost 60% of Americans believe that the country is going in the wrong direction. However, there is hope, ever since talented young people have offered to teach lower-income children in urban and rural public schools.

The initiative started few years ago, when investment banks like Goldman Sacks were gathering the best graduates from the best campuses. This year, the program received some extra help from Teach for America, a special program that promotes idealism and explores the qualities of the new generation. 12% of the Yale graduates have offered their support for the programs and 8% from Harvard and Princeton.

The new class of teachers will attend a five-week training course to learn everything about teaching. In September, they will report at work in some of the toughest American public schools. The new teachers will be paid by the local school and after two years, they may qualify for a $9,500 scholarship.

Dan Harrington

Dan Harrington was born on December 6, 1945. Even since he was a young man, he liked games – all sorts of games, including chess, backgammon, and poker. In fact, we won the 1971 Massachusetts State Chess Championship and a backgammon championship. During his university years, he was part of an MIT team that was specializing in blackjack. His learning process was marked by few memorable games with Bill Gates, Howard Lederer and Erik Seidel. In 1995, he won $1,000,000 at the WSOP (World Series of Poker). Although this was his biggest success, he gained many more pots during his career as a professional poker player:

-       1987, 6^th place at the WSOP – $43,750;

-       1995 – $2,500 bracelet;

-       2003, 3^rd place – $650,000;

-       2004, 4^th place – $1,500,000.

Obviously, his basic qualification as a bankruptcy lawyer was not exciting enough. Dan chose to become a professional poker player, and he does his job well. He is known as an aggressive player that prefers high stakes.

Rajib Neog

Whoever said the being a farmer is not a productive occupation, was completely wrong. Rajib Neog is a young farmer in the small Ganakabari village (the Jorhat District of the Indian state Assam). In this region 70% of farmers grow Sali boro rice, and just 30% grow boro only.

There are three types of boro rice, but one has become very popular in the area: Kanaklata. Rajib immediately noticed the potential of boro cropping. In 2002-2003, he was the only farmer in the village who cultivated boro rice. Few years later, he started to cultivate Joymati, BINM and the Kanaklata varieties of boro rice.

Due to the new technology package Rajib used, his crops became richer and richer. For example, in 2006, his rice harvest reached 9.95 tons! In 2005, Rajib earned 24,000 rupees by selling four tons of rice sees. He does not settle with his rice crops and supplements his family’s income by growing vegetables and by raising farm animals.

Emma Chang

Emma Chang received the ‘Shine Young Achiever of the Year Award’ in 2008, for her outstanding work as a hotel manager at the Liner Hotel (Liverpool). After she graduated from the university, Emma had doubts about finding a job according to her degree. Instead, she chose to work in the hotel industry. Emma’s first experience of working in hospitality was being a room attendant in a small hotel.
