Many women suffer from dysmenorrhea or extreme period pains, which can be incapacitating.
If you are a girl or woman who is in menarche, there is a strong likelihood that you suffer from or have suffered from period pains. Between 10 and 70 percent females who get their periods also experience moderate to severe cramping pains, sometimes bad enough to send them to bed and miss school or work.
For a long time, physicians dismissed the pain as psychosomatic – but it is actually an all too real pain, which can be excruciating at times and for some women. The pain is usually in the lower part of the abdomen, often around the pelvic area, sometimes going to the lower back and may be accompanied by bloating, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and even some weight gain.
