In 1988 Lawrence Panza suffered a horrible accident just across his house because of a drunk driver. His skull was crushed on the right side. He was in a coma for two weeks and suffered from a degree of paralysis. He had to learn how to walk again and function again.

A plate had to be put in his skull and the right side of his brain was affected. Though the accident happened more than 21 years ago, he still has problems with short term memory, decision making and ordinary stress.

When Kim Miller went with her husband and 5 year old son, Trace, for a skiing holiday in Colorado in January 2004, little did she know that it would become a life changing experience. Her son went off with a ski instructor and fell, hitting his head against a metal control panel box.

Unconscious and barely breathing he was airlifted to the Denver Children’s Hospital. At the hospital, the parents learnt that his skull was shattered, eyes, brain, liver and lungs were damaged. Post surgery, he was in coma for 10 days. He underwent 26 days of rehab training at the hospital and later Houston he underwent intense physical, speech and occupational therapy for months.

He has suffered from a personality change; however, his IQ has not changed and he is a bright child. Kim wishes she had been told that he should have been wearing a helmet when he was skiing.
