How to treat gynecomastia

Gynecomastia is the visible or palpable development of tissue at breast of the men. This condition is more common in adolescent age - the reason being hormonal imbalance. Gynecomastia that is noticed at puberty is not a serious concern, as it will disappear in a matter of year or two.

Although gynecomastia is rare and often confused with just excess stubborn fat, which can be removed through exercise and changes in diet, it can be an embarrassing situation for men if anyone does in fact suffer from it.

Here are some gynecomastia treatment options

Gynecomastia affects nearly 60% of men. You can notice the enlargement of breast in one breast or in both breasts. By and large the gynaecomastia is a painless condition. In case if you notice any pain or have slightest suspicion that there can be malignancy you need to consult the physician without delaying it further.

Gynecomastia surgery

There are various options available for gynecomastia treatment . Gynecomastia surgery is one such option.

Breast reduction gynecomastia surgery

Here the fat tissue and the glandular tissue are removed. If required the excess skin formed to cover the enlargement is also removed. The incision for this gynecomastia surgery is made inside the alveolar border. The reason is that the incision mark will be less visible.

Lipectomy suction

This is another type of gynecomastia surgery . As per this procedure the edges of the tissue are tapered. The advantage of this gynaecomastia surgery is the side effects are very minimal. However if the gynecomastia is complicated with some other condition then open surgery is the only option.

Endoscopic gynecomastia surgery

This procedure is very new. Here a flexible tube with camera and light called endoscope is used to examine the breast from inside. The excess tissue [both fat and glandular] is cut without making open, large surgical incision. The cut tissue is then removed through small opening. Gynecomastia treatment

The gynecomastia treatment varies depending on various factors. The most important factor is the cause of the abnormality. In case of gynaecomastia induced by drugs like estrogen, just discontinuation of the drug is the best gynecomastia treatment .

If the gynecomastia is due to hormonal changes at puberty, then there is no treatment, as it will disappear on its own after some time. If the gynecomastia is due liver disorder, hypothyroidism and hypogonadism, gynaecomastia treatment should focus on the treatment of underlying cause than the gynaecomastia itself.

If the gynecomastia is very small and if there is no pain, it is better to leave it as it is. But if there is emotional disturbance for you or if you are appearance conscious then you can opt for treatment.

Gynecomastia in bodybuilders

Some bodybuilders who abuse steroids develop gynecoamstia. It is often hidden behind the well developed chest muscles, but in later life, when the athlete becomes less active and the muscles become less prominent, the gynecomastia effects show up. The treatments are usually in the form of surgery, but those who stop using steroids as soon as they start detecting the possibility of gencomastia and change to natural bodybuilding, the gynecomastia can usually be reversed.
