How to stop hair loss – development of future hair loss treatments
Can you imagine never having to worry about hair loss again! Lets face it, for many men, hair loss creates great amount of stress and even leads to the onset of depression for some. Seeing your youthful looks gradually vanish right in front of your eyes every time you glance at a mirror can become a source of constant worry, which can impede your daily life and even turn you into a social outcast.
Skin cells turning into hair follicles Well, there seems to be some light at the end of the tunnel. A recent discovery by scientists at the University of Manchester, have discovered that they can send a protein or a code - as they call it - to more cells than usual. This means that skin cells have the ability to turn into other types of cells to form hair follicles. It would provide a permanent solution to hair loss experienced by men suffering androgenetic alopecia.
This could become a truly great discovery because, as good as some of the existing hair loss treatments available, there is no guarantee their long term success and of course, for many, they do not work very well.
How is this a breakthrough discovery?
Well, this would pretty much safeguard anyone that is susceptible to androgenetic alopecia – inherited baldness, more commonly known as Male Patter Baldness (MPB). The scientists were able to create more fur in mice by sending a protein that was able to create more fur in the mice. They believe they may be able to replicate this in human.
Why would this be welcomed?
If this development indeed becomes reality, it can put an end to daily application of treatments to maintain or regrow hair.
Don't get your hopes up though. The development of a commercial treatment based on these findings would be years away, if at all. In the meantime, we will have to settle for good old minoxidil and propecia!
Hair transplants
Hair transplants are either very expensive procedures or they do not always result in natural looking hair. In fact, the older and cheaper hair transplants are very unnatural looking. The newer developments in hair transplants such as micro grafting or Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) are much better, but some are often still left feeling they haven't achieved the prefect result they were seeking. This is where this development can be truly something to look forward.
Big blow to the hair loss product industry
This would be a big blow to the manufacturers of existing hair loss product. The industry itself is worth billions every year. There is also a large industry for generic hair loss products, giving people the opportunity to buy hair loss treatments at more affordable prices, but that have the key ingredients for the purpose of stopping hair loss or regrowing hair.
