How to search for a job

In everyone's life, there comes those times when he or she must embark on a new job search. Many people search for jobs each day but few have rapid success in finding the right one. The job market is very competitive these days. Here are some tips to help you in your search for a new and better job:

.  Use online job posting and application services such as Monster.com and Careerbuilder.com. These services are free.

.  Update your resume. If you decide that you would like to use a service to write your resume, don't pay too much. In fact, a good rule to follow is to never pay to find work. You can find an inexpensive book on writing resumes in any bookstore. With rudimentary English skills, you should be able to write an effective resume.

.  When you submit a resume either online or through the mail, call the potential employer to see if they received it. You don't have to make this complicated - just call the Human Resources department of the potential employer and ask if they received the resume and about how soon will it be for an interview. The person you speak with may avoid answering the question totally but it will bring attention to your name.

.  Never rely on some catchy phrase in your resume to help you land a job. In your resume, focus on accomplishments and qualifications. Remember that you have to convince a potential employer that you will be an asset to the organization.

.  Find jobs by asking your friends if anything is available where they work. Most successful job searches are the result of references from friends.

.  Take the time to formulate a set of questions (about 10) to take with you to the interview. This shows your interest in working for the potential employer. A side effect of this strategy is that it gets the employer talking sometimes more than you during the interview as they answer your questions. Try it. You will be surprised.

.  Never lie on your resume. You may think that everyone does it but it will catch up to you someday.
