How to know when to quit your job You've had the same job for years. Each day feels just as monotonous as the last. You want to quit your job to pursue your dream job but you aren't sure if it is the right time. How do you know when it is the right time to quit your job? Find your dream job Before you quit job, consider what it is you'd rather be doing. Do you have an office job but desire to work outdoors? Do you need a job that makes more money or has better hours? In an era of the internet, are you looking for a job where your employer is flexible enough to let you work from home? Once you figure out what it is you'd rather do, you will have a stronger reason to quit your job . You may have been studying for new qualifications in your spare time and now feel you have accrued new skills to complement the ones you have, but feel you have no opportunity to demonstrate it in your current job and therefore you require a job that enables you to do just that. But, first see if you can negotiate with your manager (superior) a job promotion, which would enable you to apply the new skills. Job search before quitting Some people like the security of landing their dream job before leaving their current one. Write a winning CV. Go on a few job interviews outside of work hours. Before starting your new job, give adequate notice to your current one. Build up a relationship with a recruitment consultant explaining your situation. They will try to find you a role that you are seeking. Use the internet to hunt down jobs from the comfort of your home. Most internet recruitment sites allow you to specify the type of jobs that you are looking for They will send details that meet your criteria. Start your own business Would you rather quit your job so you can open your own business? Before you take that plunge, reserve six months or one year of living expenses. That way, you can focus on building your new business without the financial stress. Consider moonlightingIf you can pursue your dream job after normal work hours, you can build your business before you quit your job . This works especially well if you have an internet business or are a freelance writer, photographer, or artist. Ethical reasonsSometimes, quitting your job has nothing to do with money or job satisfaction. If there is an ethical reason that makes you want to quit, seek the advice of a lawyer first. A good lawyer can help you determine the right time to quit your job and may help you file a lawsuit if that is necessary. Just do it Sometimes, thinking too much can lead to inaction. Decide you want to quit your job, set goals, and then just do it! Simply deciding is only the first step. However, it cannot be stressed enough the need to secure a new job before quitting your current job for financial security, unless, of course, you feel really strongly about the situation that would prompt you to quit your job now.
