If you want a pet dog breed with some class of aristocracy, an Afghan hound is one of your better options. This breed is originally from Afghanistan and is also famous under the name Kabul hound, Baluchi Hound or a Tazi. Afghan hounds are often used and are originally known as hunters to prey on foxes and wolves.

Quick facts on Afghan breed hound

One of the most distinguishing physical characteristics of Afghan breeds are their fine, long and silky coat that often covers up until their feet. Their color may well be varied in color, but markings on the head are not encouraged. The distinct small ring at the tip of their tails is one mark that is uniquely theirs.

Afghan hounds are generally slender and tall. Their heads are narrow and refined. They have dark eyes with the shape of almonds. They have a good posture because of their straight legs, prominent hipbones and tucked abdomen.

Because Afghan hounds have a very unique appearance, they are often great participants in dog shows.

It is always recommended to train an Afghan hound puppy at its early age. It would be best to train them after they eat their first meal of the day, immediately after they wake up. Prepare enough patience during training because Afghan hounds are known to have independent qualities that may lead to chronic disobedience.

Afghan hounds appear to be delicate dogs. You might often see them in pain caused by minor injuries because they have low pain tolerance.

Generally, an Afghan hound would live until 14 years of age. Be aware of the common disease that they may acquire, here are some of them:

Feeding Afghan hounds

An average Afghan hound puppy should eat three to four times a day. See to it that each feeding has a four-hour interval. As your dogs get older, two meals daily would be enough. It would is also a good idea to mix in dry and moist food together. You can give them dog biscuits, pabulum or rice.
