How to choose a dog for a pet

Dogs are man’s best friend. They can be a person’s greatest companion, but choosing which one is good for you isn’t as simple as going to the shop and picking among the wide range of breed. Dog ownership is not to be taken lightly. To look for the right pet involves studying one’s personal individuality and character as well as your expectation from a pet. There are myriad breeds of dogs to choose from and each one of them possesses a distinctive personality that you can either love or hate. And so choosing one does not only entails you to look at its cute face, there are indeed various factors to reflect on.

Do you want a puppy or a full-grown one? This is the very first thing that you need to consider. Puppies are cute and small so they easily attract the heart of their owners but as expected, they will grow and it is impossible to foretell their character so who knows if the loving puppy can grow up into a fierce one. It is also hard to predict if it will grow into a healthy dog in the future. Adopting a puppy that is too young can be a serious problem because it is hard to tell if they will live or not. Grownup dogs are less cute and the puppy’s enthusiasm and hyperactivity is gone but the benefits in buying this kind is that they had already surpassed the delicate stage of surviving and they are more than ready to learn.

The character of the dog should also match your character as a person. Do you like to stroll around or would you rather sit down at your house and watch TV? If you are an active kind then try looking for an active dog that would love to be with you for a walk. But if you are the laidback type then you should look for one that doesn’t need outdoor activity frequently. You should also consider your budget, do remember though that the larger the dog, the larger your food and veterinary bills are going to be! Every dog is different, research information about their life, exercise requirements, life span and more. Familiarize all their traits first before buying to get the one that you can really take care of.

What size of the dog will go along with your lifestyle? Although it is logical that a smaller dog will be happier in a small place than a large dog that will feel confined inside, this logic is not always true. Even small ones needs to move around like how they need daily exercise and outdoor activity. Another choice may be between a purebred or mixed breed. If you want your dog to participate on dog shows then purebred is the right for you. But for unique kind, mixed breed are the way to go! The next option is to decide where you will buy your cute pet with four-feet. Is it from a breeder, pet shops, rescue organizations or animal shelters?
