There is a growing trend in Western European countries to have wooden flooring laid in homes over carpeting which has been the traditional method of covering the floors. Wooden flooring is generally considered more fashionable because it provides a rich feel to the home. However, some unanticipated problems could result from making the switch. Here we will discuss both the advantages and disadvantages of both types of flooring. Advantages of wooden flooring There is no doubt that expensive real wood flooring gives the home a touch of glamour. There are other advantages such as being very easy to clean and the fact that it doesn't collect dust as easily as carpet. This is especially good for those who are asthmatic. Disadvantages One major disadvantage is that it can feel quite cold during the winter. Wooden flooring seems to make the room temperature go down a few centigrade and give a cold eerie feeling. Advantages of carpet flooring Buying carpet of high quality material can also make a home look beautiful and the added advantage is that it feels really soft and comfortable to walk on or sit on, the same cannot be said of wooden flooring. However, during the winter when temperature drops is when carpeting really has a big advantage over wooden flooring. Disadvantages Many change to wooden flooring because they find that a carpet gathers dust too quickly and find themselves needing to hover too frequently. It can also be bad for asthmatic people.
