How to prevent asthma

Unfortunately, asthma is a condition that cannot be cured. People that have it will always be susceptible to asthma attacks whether mild or quite more serious. However, asthma is also a condition that can be prevented through careful management of the symptoms responsible causing such attacks.

Although these preventative measures are there to help stop asthma occurring or reduce the adverse affects when they do occur, there is no subtitute for a doctor's advice.

Preventative measures for asthma

  • Close the windows when you are at home. This will block pollens from penetrating inside.
  • Avoid high fat, greasy foods, especially foods that are in saturated fats.
  • Avoid too much strenuous exercise. Too much exercise can risk further inflaming the condition. Although it is important for asthma sufferers to carry low fat, any exercise should be carefully managed and not to rigorous. Always carry an inhaler when doing any sporting activity because of the possible difficulty with breathing during such activities.
  • Avoid being overweight – Naturally, being overweight will make the asthma condition worse because carrying excess fat makes it more difficult to breathe naturally thus making it even more difficult for a person with asthma.
  • If you suffer from hayfever then you should avoid – if you can- going out when the pollen count is high. Certainly, you should avoid going to parks and other areas that are grassy and planted with a lot of trees, flowers. Always a pair of sunglass and, if possible, protect your nose as well.
  • Avoid foods that you are allergic to as this will make will cause the asthma to get worse. Foods containing nuts are a particular threat because so many people tend to be allergic to such foods.

These are some of the steps you can take to reduce the problems caused by asthma. Although it is not yet curable, by following some of the steps above, it can be controlled. Most importantly, a person with asthma should carry an inhaler at all times.
