How to make money on the stockmarket through fixed odds bets

There is now an increasing range of ways to trade the stockmarket. Whereas once the traditional way to trade was to buy stocks through a stockbroker, there now seems an innumerable ways to play the markets. BetOnMarkets is a firm allowing various new methods for day trading stocks.

Its slightly different to futures trading (which has come on leaps and bounds over the last few years) in that it offers the chance to make money on fixed odds. The trader knows the exact odds prior to placing the bets on the amount the market needs to move in his favour for a payout.

BetOnMarkets essentially provides people to trade markets in stocks, major worlds indices and currencies without actually physically buying the instruments the bet is placed on. The bets are placed based on real-time prices.

Account privileges

The trader will be given a username and password to access the account from which they are able to place instructions to generate cost of bets as often as they want until they come across a bet they are happy with in terms of the odds it offers of the chance to win so they can instruct the computer to place the actual bet. The account holder also has access to charting facilities to help with technical analysis in order find the right market to place the bet on.

The types of bets they offer are designed for day traders who like to place short-term bets on the movements of the markets.

Types of bets

One really positive aspect of BetOnMarkets over traditional spread-betting companies is that the range of possibilities in terms of the method of trading a stock, indices or a currency is very wide ranging.

  • One touch bet – This is where the person making a bet will have to predict whether the market they are placing a bet on will touch the predicted level before the bet expires.
  • No touch bet – This is a bit like the above except you don't expect it to touch either side of the
  • Bull bet – This is where you predict whether the market you place the bet on will remain above the predicated level. If its below on the expiry date the bet will have been lost.
  • Bear bet – This is the reverse of the above. You are required to predict whether market you bet on will be below the predicted level.
  • Barrier range bet – This is where you expect the instrument will trade between a range without actually touching the higher or lower level.
  • Double touch bet – This type of bet is similar to the above in that it needs to touch both the upper and lower range levels before the bet expires.

An example of a one-touch bet that you might place with BetOnMarkets

Imagine the price of Microsoft stock is currently $25, an example of a bet that you may place is; win £1,000 if the Microsoft stock reaches $28 within 21 days. The automated system using the technology employed by BetOnMarkets will return the cost of the bet. The more remote the possibility of the result being in your favour the higher the odds, its very akin to horse racing in that regard because a few of them will be very long shots because they have very little chance of winning.
