How to decide which stocks are right for me and which are not

Stocks are an important part of any economic system. Many stock markets have opportunities for the average person to buy and sell and make a profit. But how does one decide which are the right stocks to buy and which are not? There are so many to choose from and the wrong choice could lose money for an investor. There are a few tips one can use when trying decide the right stocks to buy.

First, make an evaluation of your current financial situation before choosing any high risk stock. You are going to be investing some of your funds and they will go from a liquid state to a non-liquid state. Can you do without those funds for a while? If you cannot then don't sink them into risky stocks.

Research stocks

Research a company before you invest in its stock. This may seem obvious but you will occasionally have a friend who will want you to invest in this "great" stock. Be careful that the claims and value of the company may be inflated. How much is it projected to make in the long run?

Study the strategy of short selling a stock. This is not without its risk but you stand to gain a good profit if you take the time to know what you are looking for. Not all stocks are ones that will profit you from short selling. Again, research is the key.

You need to choose some low-risk stocks in addition to your high-risk stocks. This is a basic concept known as diversification or not having all of "your eggs in one basket." So take a close look at some of the stable low-risk stocks without a lot of volatility.
