How to study in the US as an international student

To study in the US as an international student, the first key is to create a plan. This plan should include financial budgeting, the application process for the institution you will attend, transportation, living arrangements, knowledge of the country, and a goal for yourself at the end of your education.

In order to form this plan, you must:

  • Understand what financial assistance you are entitled to .
  • Understand the process by which you apply to the institution of your choice .
  • Make sure all of your travel arrangements are set up.
  • Have a working understanding of all the rules of living and employment in the US.
  • Know what you can do with your education upon graduating

During the formation of this plan, there are some key points to understand. First, as an international student, you are entitled to financial aid and scholarships specifically geared toward foreign guests. In some cases, there is even a special application process.

Make sure you know what rules and guidelines you need to abide by during your stay, as determined by both the institution and the government. A good place to start is investigating the information available on websites run by both the institution you have chosen and the government.

Make sure you know all your opportunities once your degree is obtained or education is completed so you know what to expect to use your education on and what your future may hold. This is a good place to form a goal, like any student of higher education in the US.

Some foreign students prefer to go back to their home country to use their education. This is very common and very acceptable, but realize there will be a transition period and a lot of changes in yourself you did not notice.
