How to upgrade your computer memory

So, you've decided to upgrade your computer memory . Maybe your current computer is acting sluggish. Maybe you'd like to improve the way your computer performs overall. Whatever your reason is, if you don't have enough computer memory your system definitely won't perform up to par .

Choose your computer memory upgrade

This may be the most difficult part! How do you choose from all the different products out there? Sites such as www.newegg.com offer a selection of product options. Also search online to find product reviews. There are websites devoted to the meticulous testing of computer hardware. After individuals are done the tests, they post the results. When you check reviews, make sure you look into things such as quality control and any performance based issues.

Computer support

Once you choose a product to upgrade your computer memory, you will need to check if your computer supports the computer memory that you chose. Some motherboards are only compatible with certain products. Make sure there isn't a conflict before you begin. One of the main differences is that older computers use what's called SIMM memory modules. The newer version is called DIMM memory modules.

Install the computer memory

You can either hire someone to install it for you, or do it yourself. Installing it yourself actually isn't that hard. Make sure the computer is unplugged. Carefully remove the outer covering. Find the location for the memory. Then, gently press the new memory into the slot where the old was one located.

Test the computer memory

Now that it is installed, you'll want to perform a series of tests to make sure it works how you want. Turn the computer on and observe how quickly it starts up. Does it seem to run better? Next, do something that would normally make the computer slow down, such as a graphics program. Is it running as fast as you'd like? If not, find a new product, install it, and perform the test again. You can either return the product that didn't work out, or sell it on E-bay.
