How to understand different IT careers

If you want to have an IT career, there are many of them that you can choose from, including:

An IT engineer

•  This job has to do with designing and supporting computer hardware. Computer hardware includes monitors, printers, scanners, keyboards and other such multimedia devices.

•  To become an engineer, there are some things that you must do:

•  Go online and search for MCSE study guides. In specific, you are going to want to take the MCSE Exam 70-028 or 70-029 for free. Make sure that you save the study guide to your hard drive.

•  Spend some time reading and memorizing the study guide.

•  Once you feel as though you truly know this information, you are going to want to go to www.vue.com to schedule your Microsoft certification exam. This test will need to be taken at a testing center and it will cost you approximately $150. (Make sure that you are truly ready to take this exam as you will have to pay this fee each and every time that you take the test.)

•  You will have to pass a minimum of 6 exams before Microsoft will allow you to claim to be an MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer).

•  As an engineer you can expect to make $34 per hour or an annual salary of $70,000.

An Internet or web designer

•  As an Internet or web designer you will be developing and maintaining web pages and sites online. Therefore, you will need to need to know both HTML programming and graphic design.

•  Training to become an Internet or web designer will require:

•  You will need to take time to learn HTML.

•  It is very beneficial to learn PHP, XML, ColdFusion, Java and ASP.

•  In order to create graphics you will need to learn Adobe PhotoShop CS2. There are lots of free tutorials for this product scattered around the Internet.

•  Most of these aforementioned things can be learned by simply reviewing the code that “powers” some of the web sites that you really like. Of course, this does not mean that you should steal a web site.

•  In order to be successful in this line of work, you will need to be creative and able to pay attention to detail. If you have these qualities, then you can expect to make between $18,000 and $48,000 per year.

A network specialist

•  Your job as a network specialist has to do with the technical aspects of the Internet. In specific, you will be working with networking systems such as Local Area Network (LAN), Wide Area Network (WAN) and Internet. Networking facilitates communications and the sharing of resources using IT. As such you will be working with all of the various aspects of the Network environment, including network equipment, the physical Network, Network connections, Network management and Network Software. Popular Networking names and products include Microsoft Windows, Novell Netware, Banyan, US Robotics, Appletalk, Cisco, Agere, Orinoco, 3COM and Linux.

•  To work as a network specialist, you will need to get an associates degree in applied science.

•  Once you begin working in this field you can make between $34,400 and $54,400 per year.

A database administrator

•  As a database administrator you will be working with database products such as Oracle, Microsoft's SQL Server, IBM's DB2 and Sybase. Your job is to make sure that these databases are secure, robust and functional for effective business performance. Herein you will need to enjoy paying attention to detail.

•  In order to become a database administrator there are some things that you will need to learn and do:

•  You will need to learn SQL well because it is the standard way to issue command to database servers.

•  You will need to get certified in the database software products that have been created by Microsoft, Oracle and IBM.

•  You should get a web host that provides SQL server hosting of databases so that you can start learning these various things. Once you are comfortable with SQL, you should look for software tools, such as SQL editor, to assist you with SQL database design, as well as to provide you with SQL language reference and help.
