How to backup your computer

It is crucial to backup data stored on your computer in event of a computer crash. No one wants to lose valuable information but having it at your fingertips can be a huge relief when your computer is not performing.

Backing data is simple task but far too many of is fail to do it because we are too lay or we simply cannot be bothered. However, in order to make sure that all data is backed up, it requires information. It shows below how to backup your computer for different operating systems.

Windows Vista : The Backup and Restore Centre

This backup system is very convenient as it allows you to backup data on your computer at scheduled times. You choose when you would like to backup, and where you would like the files to be placed. Here's how to use the Backup and Restore Centre:

  • Click the Start button
  • Click Control Panel
  • Click System and Maintenance
  • Click Backup and Restore Centre
  • Click Backup Files and then follow the steps in the wizard

Using this automated system, you don't need to remember to backup your files.

Windows XP Professional

With this operating system, you can also schedule automated backup times.

  • Click Start and select All Programs
  • Select Accessories, select System Tools , and click Backup
  • If this is the first time you've used this tool, a wizard will show up and you just need to follow the wizard's instructions

Windows XP Home Edition

If this is your operating system and you wish to use the backup utility, you must add it. You can do so by following these steps:

•  Insert the Windows XP CD into the drive. In My Computer, double-click the CD icon

•  Click Perform Additional Tasks

•  Click Browse this CD

•  In Windows Explorer, double-click the ValueAdd folder, then Msft , and then Ntbackup

•  Double-click Ntbackup.msi to install the Backup utility

There are also many free computer backup programs you can download from the Internet. Your local office supplies store will also have backup software that you can buy. Ask a sales associate what they recommend or read the package and see what most appeals to you.
