Jeanette Hundley of Nashville, Tennessee, was devastated when she learnt she had barin tumor, she was fighter and came out of the treatment well. However, she slowly lost vision in her right eye and was at a loss as to what to do. There seemed to be no available treatment to help her.

She was then referred to the Durham Center for Vision Replacement. After evaluation she was told that her vision could not improve, but they could make special glasses for her which would help her see. A pair of prismatic glasses were made for her to enable her to see and lead a normal life.

When Kim Miller went with her husband and 5 year old son, Trace, for a skiing holiday in Colorado in January 2004, little did she know that it would become a life changing experience. Her son went off with a ski instructor and fell, hitting his head against a metal control panel box.

Unconscious and barely breathing he was airlifted to the Denver Children’s Hospital. At the hospital, the parents learnt that his skull was shattered, eyes, brain, liver and lungs were damaged. Post surgery, he was in coma for 10 days. He underwent 26 days of rehab training at the hospital and later Houston he underwent intense physical, speech and occupational therapy for months.

He has suffered from a personality change; however, his IQ has not changed and he is a bright child. Kim wishes she had been told that he should have been wearing a helmet when he was skiing.
