Origin

The Aegean cat is a natural breed of cat and is the only cat breed native to Greece. This breed originated from Greek Cycladic Islands located in the Aegean Sea. This is a new cat breed but often believed to be a rare breed. The Aegean cat is seen throughout Greece.

Height and Weight

The Aegean is a medium sized cat breed with a muscular body. The weight and height is average.

Colors and Coat

The Aegean Cat has a coat that is semi long with a ruff and rich tail. The color is bicolor or tricolor with one of the colors always being white. The white fur has no signs of yellow and always covers 1/3 to 2/3 of the body.

Origin

The Abyssinian, also known as the Aby, is one of the oldest cat breeds known to man. This beautiful cat looks just like those ancient Egyptian cats you see in old paintings and sculptures. Of course, since this is one of the oldest cat breeds the exact origin cannot be pinpointed. It is known that the earliest cats were taken to Britain by solders that were returning home from the war in 1868 in Abyssinian. In 1882, these cats were finally recognized and were shown in 1909 in the United States. However, the breed was not recognized in the United States until 1986 a long way from their first appearance.

The Abyssinian is of average height and both males and females will weigh between 9 and 16 pounds.

MAP (Medical Assistance Programs) helps rehabilitate people with disabilities and works within communities to eliminate stigmas associated with disabilities. When Don Silvestre, 29, a farmer in the Bolivian community of Santibañez, was working in his fields, he was struck by a falling tree and the impact was so great that he was paralyzed from waist down and so unable to work.

To add to his woes his wife left him alone with their four small children. He soon went into despair, depression and poverty. MAP came to his aid and started him on a physical rehabilitation program to enable to get some strength back and also helped him start organic farming. As there are only pain relief measure for this disease and trying various different combinations he had a Medtronic Morphine Pump implanted into his lower left abdominal area. The pump induces morphine epidurally; via his spine, and directly into the spinal fluid. In early 2004, after reaching the maximum dosage possible of Morphine, the medication had to be switched to Dialaudid for more effective relief.

Brian is a coal miner in New Zealand and says that he always wanted to become a coal miner. He left school after the fifth form and soon after got a job at a gold mine. He worked there for two years and says that he learned to drive heavy machinery like diggers, dozers and trucks, and the experience gave him a good knowledge of machinery, which is needed for working in coal mining too.

Later he worked at two different opencast coal mines, but he still wanted to work underground. Finally he got his wish and started working at the junior most level and worked his way through the ranks. Now he has got his supervisor’s ticket and wants to get the manager’s ticket.

A geologist has to know all about the earth’s crust and what lies beneath. His knowledge and expertise in invaluable when the earth has to be mined, when drilling work has to be done, whether it is for oil or water, for environmental issues and for mapping purposes. She went to her doctor who prescribed medicines for a yeast infection, which did not help her. Later she started having some bleeding, when to a gynecologist and was, after many tests, diagnosed with stage 2 squamous cell carcinoma of the vagina. She was only 44 at that time, had a 13 year old daughter and a husband who was recovering from a stroke.

She underwent surgery to remove the lymph nodes in the groin area, followed by 25 external beam radiation treatments. It took her five months to get back to work and recovery and healing was slow. She has to go for regular check-ups since then.

Sock Kim who lives in Singapore found out that she had nose cancer (NPC – nasopharyngeal cancer) in Aug 2006. She underwent 8 weeks of radiation treatment in Sep-Oct 2006.  In Jan 2007 tests showed that there were no more tumors.

But tests in Sep 2007 showed sub-cm tiny nodules in the right lung. In Mar 2008 the scan confirmed 2 nodules in the right lung, “suspicious of metastasis”. In December she had surgery to have the nodules removed. The biopsy showed cancer.

Subsequently, after a few months, she got some respite. ’All the test results are normal. My lung is my main concern, so the good x-ray result is comforting and reassuring,’ she says.

Jerry James Bradshaw was doing a lot of work which required a great deal of communication, so when his voice got hoarse, he put it down to his work, particularly since he also had sinus and allergy problems. Over the counter medicines did not help and finally he went to a doctor who diagnosed bronchitis. He was put on antibiotics.

He got better, but later the hoarseness returned and he went to an ENT doctor who said he had a growth on his vocal chords. A biopsy showed cancer. He went to the Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Tulsa and was put through a regime of 6 chemo treatments and 33 radiation treatments over a period of almost two months. Later he had 5 more chemo treatments.

When Belinda Plowman was a baby she had Retinoblastoma (Rb) which is an inherited form of eye cancer. When she was only 16 months old she had her left eye removed. When she turned five, she became an outpatient at Barts and would have to visit the hospital every year.

She had decided that she did not want to have children if they would inherit the disease (her mother had it too), but when she got married and found out that they could go in for genetic testing once she got pregnant, she decided to go for it. Fortunately when she did get pregnant and was tested, it was found that the embryo did not have the genetic mutation which would cause Rb.

A few years later, she had IVF where the fertilized eggs were tested before implantation, and later she gave birth to a healthy baby boy.
