An insurance claims handler will check out any claims make on any kind of insurance policy – many insurance claims handlers specialize in dealing with one type of insurance, so their work also becomes easier.
The work
An insurance claims handler does a multitude of tasks. He may be doing appraisals to see the value of the property, vehicle or the health of a person and then offering a quote on the premium as well as advising customers on what kind of policy they should have to get good protection.
He will be in charge of all the paperwork, right from the filling in forms, checking out claims and seeing how much money has to be given out to a customer. He will be responsible for verifying the claims and disbursing the checks. If claims are complicated or doubtful he may take up the matter with senior level people.
The qualifications and training
He will probably get training on the job, or have to attend a short course. The required skills are:

Microsoft Excel is one of the most used software applications for spreadsheet editing. However, its main purpose is to create complex spreadsheets, calculations and graphs so may of these actions might be new for you.
